Classic Sweater KAL

Please Register by January 3, 2022 to show your interest and receive updates

When you think of a hand knit sweater the classic image comes to mind of beautiful yarn and textured cables. But the idea of actually making that sweater might be daunting. With the encouragement of your FingerPlay Studio friends you can make that sweater. Really. Its not that hard--just knits and purls, and a bit of attention.

If you would like to make this sweater add your name here. Doing so will put you on the list and help us swatch interest. Get it? Swatch = see if it is going to work. That is, see if enough people want to knit a classic sweater.

The Pattern:
We've searched high and low on Ravelry to find a pattern that was both classic and modern. It had to be something that met our criteria: cardigan, button band, some seaming, something we would enjoy wearing. It also needed to have more than a few completed projects in Ravelry.

We kept drooling over the patterns by Thea Colman, a.k.a. Baby Cocktails.

Description of the Oban Cardigan from Thea Colman:

Textured cables, honeycomb, and some ribbed detail that allows you to modify the body easily for width. Pockets play right into the cables, and the detail along each button band beautifully highlights the V-neck shaping as it runs into the cable panel on each side. Lastly, a delicate shawl collar is worked onto the sweater in garter stitch, adding a final touch to the sweater.

Notes are included in the pattern to alter length or width of either body or sleeves, and the shawl collar can easily be modified for a deeper fold if desired - or worked as a straight button band. Once again, these are simple cables, so the sweater is an easier knit than you’d think!
