YA Sweater Knitting
This class is designed for knitters age 13 to 17* who are ready to make garments.
Celebrate slow fashion by knitting your own clothes. This relaxed tee is knit in the round, from the bottom up. You can make it cropped or as long as you like. You will also learn how to customize with color and modifications to make it your own.
This project is appropriate for your first sweater. Our staff is happy to help you select materials.
The design uses fingering weight yarn.

You'll work through:
- Swatching (to experiment with your yarn, size, and needles)
- Reading and following a pattern
- Garment construction
- Knitting in the round
- Increasing
- Holding stitches
- 3-needle bind off
- Blocking

Gauge:
22 sts & 32 rows per 4x4 square in stockinette, flat & in the round, blocked
Suggested Needles:
US 5 – 3.75 mm circular needles (main body)
US 3 – 3.25 mm circular needles (optional, used for ribbed finishes only)
Materials:
fingering weight yarn, circular needles, stitch markers, stitch holders, extra needle for 3-needle bind off, darning needle
