The Kindred Sweater Knit Along

In celebration of International Local Yarn Store Day, we’ve teamed up with local knit designer Briana Arlene and local dyer Abby Spolar of Poppy & Spruce Fibers for a cast-on party in the Studio. 

The Pattern

One of Briana's most favorited designs on Ravelry. The Kindred is a short-sleeved colorwork pullover with a slightly cropped, boxy fit (of course you can always make it longer). The yoke and hem feature stranded colorwork, and a textured stitch adds depth and interest to the body. The neckband, hem, and cuffs are worked in twisted rib. 

The Designer

Briana Arlene creates modern hand knitting patterns inspired by the landscapes of the American West. She prides herself on clear, size-inclusive instructions that help you create garments you truly love—pieces you’ll reach for again and again. Her designs are rooted in slow craft, thoughtful construction, and a belief that knitting should feel both accessible and meaningful.

The Yarn

We've selected Poppy & Spruce Fibers' Spruce DK. It is comprised of 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon with 245 yards/100g. It's a bouncy yarn that is a delight to work with and performs wonderfully in colorwork.

The Dyer

After growing up in California, Abby and her husband Josh moved to Denver in Dec 2021. Here her dream of hand dyeing yarn could finally come true. The name Poppy + Spruce Fibers represents her first home (poppies are California's state flower) and her current home (spruces are Colorado's state tree).
